Orthokeratology is a non- surgical, non invasive and reversible process which reshapes (flattens) the cornea used rigid gas permeable contact lenses. We offer ORTHO-K for myopic (short sighted) individuals with low degrees of astigmatism. It works by flattening the cornea reducing the focusing power of the eye. The lenses are worn overnight. After the contact lenses are removed in the morning the cornea retains it flattened shape for all or part of the remainder of the day. A lens must be worn up to every night to maintain the flattening or the eye will revert back to its normal shape.

Who is a candidate?
•    People with healthy eyes and low degrees of myopia/short sight
•    Sports people who don’t want to rely on glasses or contact lenses during the day and those that work in windy/dusty conditions
•    Contact lens intolerance with conventional lenses
•    For children and young adults with rapidly progressing myopia as studies have shown it may help to retard myopic progression

Results you can expect.

If your primary goal is to be glasses and contact lens free during the day then ORTHO-K might be a good option for you. However if you want to eliminate the use of contact lenses altogether then ORTHO-K is not likely to satisfy you. You may wish to consider other options in this case.

ORTHO-K has been practiced around the world for many years and is FDA approved in the United States. The risks involved with ORTHO-K contact lenses are the same as those present with normal contact lenses that are worn overnight.

Costs are $1770 which includes all fitting appointments up to 6 months and 2 ORTHO-K lenses. The fitting process will require a few more visits than standard contact lenses to ensure proper stabilization of the lenses and to check that eye health is being maintained.
